Black Diamond is a game that is tailor-made not for players who just want a retro-style slot machine, but players who want something that’s as close as possible to the old Vegas classics.

Everi Gaming provides fast reels, a clean design and customizable paylines to deliver a new machine that has the feel of the old antiques. While it lacks the flashy bonus features of other modern slots, the Black Diamond slot machine has a few tricks up its sleeves with potential progressive jackpots and multipliers.

Black Diamond: Core Gameplay

This older style machine has a fairly focused number of ways to win. Black Diamond has three reels and three rows, with nine potential paylines. The paylines can stay visible on the screen to help players track potential wins as the reels settle.

This is particularly important because players can choose to player fewer than nine paylines if they wish. The game allows players to bet on one, three, five or seven paylines if they want to stretch out their buy-in. Although players cannot pick the specific paylines they want, each payline is already numbered and ranked one through nine.

The inclusion of blank spaces on the reels and the fairly small number of paylines means that payouts are a little rarer, but they tend to be a little bigger than other machines.

The only payout that’s below break even for a 9-line bet is an unmatched set of bars. The sets of sevens are a good payout on a normal payline, but the really big paydays rely on the jackpots and multipliers.

Special Features

Black Diamond offers a progressive jackpot for players betting the maximum amount of three credits on all nine paylines, for a total of 27 credits.

The Black Diamond spaces are normally just wild spaces, but if three of them fall on a payline they count as jackpot spaces. If they fall on paylines one through eight, it triggers the minor progressive jackpot.

Falling on the ninth payline, which is a V-shaped line through the top left, center and top right spaces, triggers the major progressive jackpot.

Players who don’t want to bet the maximum aren’t completely removed from the jackpot though. Hitting the minor jackpot when the bet isn’t maxed pays 300x the line bet, and hitting the major jackpot pays 5,000x the line bet.

One more way to win big is through the multipliers that can appear on the reels. Certain symbols will randomly appear with special multipliers stamped on top of them. If these special spaces fall within a winning payline, they multiple the line by that amount.

More important though, is that multiple multiplier spaces in a payline are able to stack all the way up to 30x for huge payouts.

Multipliers are never added to Black Diamond spaces, which means that jackpots can’t be multiplied. Although any symbol other than the wild spaces can have a 2x multiplier. Single bar and the single red sevens can also have a 3x multiplier. The 5x multiplier can appear on the double bars, yellow double sevens and blue triple sevens.
